Holiday Giving at Friendly House
Our Holiday Giving program is about making sure those that may be lonely, isolated, or financially struggling know that they are cared for by our community. Open to low income families in our community, and also our case managed older adult clients - we make sure that everyone feels noticed and included.
Families with children submit a list of three gifts under $40 that their child would like to receive - and in mid December we provide the parents with the requested gifts, gift wrap and tape - a respectful way to let families who might have less feel abundance for the Holiday season. For our older adult case managed clients, many of whom are lonely, and most of whom have extremely limited incomes, volunteers create handmade Holiday cards for them. These cards are mailed in mid-December along with a $25 gift card to their nearest supermarket. For some this is the only gift they receive all year.
This year's children's wish lists will be compiled online - supporters will purchase items from the list and they will be shipped directly to Friendly House. Friendly House staff will sort and deliver gifts to the families the week of December 19. Senior Holiday Card Making sessions will be held at Friendly House or you can make cards at home (we ask that you follow our guidelines.)
